Biography
Stephen Joel Albert (February 6, 1941 – December 27, 1992) was an American composer. He is best known for his Pulitzer Prize winning Symphony No. 1 RiverRun (1983) and his Cello Concerto (1990), written for Yo-Yo Ma. He made sketches for a Second Symphony, but was unable to complete it before his death in an automobile accident in 1992. The work was subsequently completed by Sebastian Currier. Albert was posthumously commemorated in music by fellow composers Aaron Jay Kernis and Christopher Rouse.
