Peter Drury

Peter Donald Drury (born 23 September 1967) is a British sports commentator who currently works for Sky Sports in the United Kingdom and NBC Sports in the United States as the lead commentator for their Premier League coverage.

Drury was formerly with ITV Sport as its second-choice football commentator, a role he had held from 1998 to 2013. He went on to freelance for Premier League Productions on its international coverage of the Premier League until May 2022 but still does occasional commentaries for them. Drury previously freelanced for CBS Sports (US) on its English-language coverage of UEFA Champions League and the Europa League from 2020 to 2022, with Pitch International for the English-language world feed of the EFL Cup through 2022, with Amazon Prime Video for its Premier League coverage in the United Kingdom through the 2022–23 season, with BT Sport on coverage of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League through the 2022–23 season, for UEFA for the English-language world feed of the UEFA Europa League Finals in 2023-2025, and for Host Broadcast Services (HBS) for the English-language world feed of the men's FIFA World Cup in 2014, 2018 and 2022 as well as the men's UEFA Euro 2024.

Drury is renowned for his poetic and literary approach to football commentary, often described as football's "poet laureate". His style is characterized by the use of metaphor, vivid imagery, and emotional resonance that transforms key moments into "epic sagas". Drury's commentary frequently employs figurative language with metaphor being his most dominant device to create an immersive experience for viewers. He is known for his explosive, rhyme-laced monologues and his ability to capture the historical weight and narrative significance of major matches. Fans and critics alike have noted his "uncanny ability to find the perfect metaphor" that elevates a simple goal or save into a moment of sporting immortality. Drury has won the Football Supporters' Association Commentator of the Year award twice (2019, 2021) and the Sports Journalists' Association Commentator of the Year award in 2020. He cites BBC Radio's Peter Jones, whom he describes as having a "beautiful, authoritative, and poetic voice," as his commentary idol.
