Biography

Etrit Fadil Berisha (Albanian pronunciation: [ˈɛtɾit bɛˈɾiʃa]; born 10 March 1989) is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Allsvenskan club BK Häcken and the Albania national team.

Born in Kosovo, Berisha began his career with 2 Korriku, making his senior debut at the age of 18 after spending time in the KEK-u youth system, before moving to Sweden in 2008 to join Kalmar FF, where he was part of the squad that won the 2008 Allsvenskan title. After a loan spell with fourth-tier club Lindsdals IF in 2009, he returned to Kalmar and established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper, spending four more seasons at the club, scoring several penalties in both regular play and shoot-outs, and being named Allsvenskan Goalkeeper of the Year in 2013.

In 2013, Berisha moved to Italy to join Lazio, reaching the Coppa Italia final in 2015, which Lazio lost, while finishing third in Serie A and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League play-off round, in which Berisha also played. In 2016, Berisha joined Atalanta, initially becoming the first-choice goalkeeper and helping the club finish fourth in Serie A in his first season and qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in its history in 2019, his final year at the club, when he lost his starting position. He remained in Serie A, joining SPAL, who were relegated to Serie B, where he continued to play. He returned to Serie A by joining Torino in 2021, but after losing his place in the team following his first season and being excluded from the squad amid disputes in his second, he left the club. He moved to Empoli in 2023, where he spent one season before leaving as a free agent.

After nearly a year without a club, Berisha returned to Sweden in 2025, joining BK Häcken and winning the Svenska Cupen in his first year before making his debut in the UEFA Conference League league phase. Recurring back problems interrupted his campaign in 2026, although he returned to competitive action later that year.

Berisha initially represented the unofficial Kosovo national team before becoming an Albania international in 2012. He played at UEFA Euro 2016, Albania's first major international tournament, and was part of the squad for Euro 2024, during which he also served as captain; with over 80 appearances, he is the team's third-most-capped player and holds the records for most clean sheets and consecutive appearances.
