Amanda Bynes

Amanda Laura Bynes (born April 3, 1986) is an American retired actress. She began acting as a child and received recognition for her roles on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series All That (1996–2000) and The Amanda Show (1999–2002), both of which won her several Kids' Choice Awards. In her mid-teens, she starred in The WB sitcom What I Like About You (2002–2006) and in the comedy films Big Fat Liar (2002) and What a Girl Wants (2003).

Bynes developed her career as an adult, beginning with a voice role in the animated feature Robots (2005). She sought mainstream film success with starring roles in the sports comedy She's the Man (2006), the musical comedy Hairspray (2007), and the romantic comedy Easy A (2010). She went on hiatus in 2010 and officially retired from acting in 2012. She has since pursued fashion design and music, graduating from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.

In the following years, Bynes' struggles with mental health and substance abuse were well documented by the media. Her legal problems, which persisted from 2012 to 2014, resulted in her parents being granted conservatorship of her from 2013 to 2022.
